Our packing methods all follow guidelines laid down by IATA.  We generally employ two different types of boxes to packing different types of animals according to their needs.

Wooden Crates

Wooden crates are used to most terrestrial and arboreal animals.  Its sturdy and can be custom made to suit our needs.  Animals are partitioned securely so that they do not crush each other during shipping. Boxes can have between 1 and 3 layers depending on the height of the box..  Turtles are usually packed in individual compartments or sometimes for larger turtles, several per compartment.   Shredded newspaper is always added to soak up excrement and provide some bedding for the animals.  Snakes are packed inside cloth bags filled with shredded newspaper and held securely in either 1/3 or 1/4 partitions per layer, usually no more than 23 snakes are place per bag.  Venomous snakes are always doubled packed in either two cloth bags or one rigid container inside one cloth bag and labeled correctly.

Cardboard Box with Inner Styrofoam Box

These boxes are similar to those used to ship tropical fish, but we have the cardboard carton pre-printed with the correct instructions for shipping reptiles. These kind of boxes provide a bit more insulation than the wooden crates, but the choice of partition sizes is more restricted. We usually ship invertebrates, aquatic and animals that require higher humidity in these type of boxes. Each box can hold either 75 adult tarantulas in their individual boxes, or 15 larger plastic boxes. We usually ship lizards, scorpions, Scolopendra subsnipes mutilans, aquatic snakes and fossorial snakes in these kind of boxes.
